Coffee vs. Espresso.

What is the difference between a coffee bean and an espresso bean? Actually, there is no difference as there is no such thing as an “espresso bean”. Coffee beans are used to make coffee and espresso but there are some kinds of coffee beans that shine better when used for espresso. The main difference between coffee and espresso is the brew method.

So what is espresso?

Espresso is two things: first, it is a brew method. Second, it is a beverage. An espresso is a one ounce liquid, including cream, brewed using an appropriate and consistent amount of ground coffee at a specific temperature. Another detail that differentiates espresso from coffee is that a well balanced shot of espresso will have a layer of crema (foam) on top. If you don’t see a nice layer of crema on your shot of espresso then you’re doing it wrong (plus, the crema is the BEST part).

While espresso is a more favorable option for a lot of people, coffee also needs its moment to shine. Luckily for us coffee drinkers, there are various methods that can be used to brew a delicious cup of java. Here at Moose Ridge we offer cold brew, single origin pour over, French press and drip coffee. Each of the methods mentioned above offers a unique, rich, and vibrant experience for your taste buds (I promise, your taste buds will appreciate it).

All of this is to say that here at Moose Ridge we have all of your coffee and espresso needs under one roof. And don’t worry, our crema always shines. So come on in and fill your cup for your next adventure!
